Answer Key

1) Globally, 200 million adolescents and youth – one in three – are not enrolled in school. Imagine all the opportunities and dreams these 200 million students would be able to accomplish if they were able to complete secondary school. They could be the next scientists, teachers, and innovators. They could become the next world leaders.

2) According to Unesco Institute for Statistics (UIS) data, 420 million people would be lifted out of poverty with a secondary education. That would cut the total number of poor people by more than half globally and by almost two-thirds in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Education is a core determinant in ending all forms of poverty everywhere.

3) Workers with more education tend to earn more money. Though education has a major effect on health and life expectancy, the links are complex and tied closely to income.

4) Kofi Annan was born in Ghana in 1938, attended a number of schools and colleges in the United States and Switzerland before becoming the first person from Sub-Saharan Africa to be elected Secretary General of the United Nations. He and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December of 2001 “for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world.” With your support, who knows, we may help to guide and support the next Kofi Annan.
